Introduction
This page provides instructions on how to use the Libraries' File Transfer Tool to package files and directories into a single transfer package.
Create a Transfer Package
Launch the File Transfer Tool.
Select a profile from the drop-down list. Dalhousie staff that are packaging University adminstrative records to be transferred to the Archives should select the “University Administrative Records” profile.
Complete the form.
Refer to the following table for guidance:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Transfer Package ID | The unique identifier of the transfer package. Usually an accession number and/or transfer number provided by the University Archives. |
Contact Name | The name of the person who is responsible for producing this transfer package. Usually the person with signing authority or a designate. |
Department / Unit | The name of the department or unit that produced this transfer package or is responsible for its contents. |
Contact Telephone | The phone number of the person who is responsible for creating this transfer package. |
Contact Email | The email address of the person who is responsible for creating this transfer package. |
Records Creator | The name of the department or unit responsible for creating the records. |
Records Classification | The name and unique identifier for the DalCLASS records series classification. |
Start Date | Start date of the records included in this transfer package. YYYY-MM-DD format. |
End Date | End date of the records included in this transfer package. YYYY-MM-DD format. |
Records Description | Description of the records included in this transfer package. |
Select Folder | Browse to the local folder that contains records to be transferred to the Archives. |
Save Location | Select the location to save the transfer package. Default is Windows desktop. |
Click on the “Create Transfer Package” button.
If the form is not complete, the error message will indicate which fields need to be filled in.
If the form is complete, the File Transfer Tool will create the transfer package and save it to the chosen Save Location.
Choose “Yes” to create another transfer package.”
Choose “No” to close the File Transfer Tool and open the Save Location in a new window.
