Introduction


Dalhousie University Archives maintains equipment for viewing and listening to select audiovisual formats found in the Archives Permanent Collection.

Equipment inventory


  1. SONY UVW-1800 Betacam SP player/recorder

  2. JVC CR-85U Umatic player

  3. JVC HR-J692U VHS videocassette player

  4. Television monitor

  5. Input switch (for switching the signal into the television monitor)

Rewind / Fast-forward

  1. Press the “REW” or “FFWD” button to rewind or advance the tape. No footage is shown on the television monitor.

  2. Press and hold the “REW” or “FFWD” button to rewind or advance the tape while showing the footage on the television monitor.

Volume

  1. The headphone volume and television speaker volume operate independently of each other. To hear just the headphone volume, make sure the television volume is turned all the way down.

Timecodes

  1. The timecode displayed on the Sony UVW-1800 does not come from the tape itself. Unless the tape is rewound to the beginning, the timecode will not reflect the duration of material.

  2. The timecode begins at the point the PLAY button is pressed.

  3. If the power is turned off/on, the timecode will reset.

  4. Tape rewound prior to the moment PLAY is pressed will show a negative number.
