Definition

The process of removing material from the Archives Permanent Collection. Deaccessioning produces deaccessions.

Introduction

Deaccessioning takes place only after a reappraisal results in the determination that materials which were previously deemed to have archival value should no longer be preserved by the University Archives.

Deaccessioning could also occur if an Archive enters into a producer-archive project.that requires the Archive to periodically accept submission information packages (SIPs) that include a "transfer object to delete" attribute that identifies previously accepted transfer objects that must be deleted.
