Processing workflow

Introduction


  • This page provides a high-level overview of a typical archival processing project.

  • The workflow assumes that the archival fonds or collection has been appraised.

Workflow


The workflow includes the following steps:

  1. Receive processing assignment

  2. Set up schedule for processing tasks (e.g., survey and proposal, arrangement and preservation, finding aid, processing activities associated with digitization)

  3. Prepare a processing plan

  4. Approve processing plan

  5. Arrange and rehouse collection to approved levels

  6. Describe the collection in a draft finding aid

  7. Select a representative image for the collection

  8. Review and edit finding aid in staff database

  9. Publish finding aid in staff database

  10. Notify project manager, supervisor, archivists, et.

  11. Publish finding aid and any associated digital objects in the public Archives Catalogue

  12. Update all collection documentation (i.e., case file, accession records, master list of archival collections, etc.)

  13. Promote and share finding aid (e.g., social media, personal contacts, newsletters, etc.)
