Guidelines on seed-level metadata
Introduction
The following guidelines outline the Dublin Core metadata fields used to describe “seeds” captured in a web archive collection.
Guidelines are based, in part, on the report: Descriptive Metadata for web archiving: Recommendations of the OCLC Research Library Partnership Web Archiving Metadata Working Group by Jackie Dooley and Kate Bowers.
Consult your supervisor or project manager if you need a metadata field not included in these guidelines.
In addition to these guidelines, you may need to consult:

Guidance | Provide a brief description of the seed and its intellectual content. Follow guidance for item-level scope and content notes provided in the Rules for Archival Description. Do not include HTML markup. If more than one paragraph is required, use a second dc.description field. |

Guidance | Provide subjects, geographic place names, and names of persons or organizations reflected in the website. Derive terms from controlled vocabularies such as LCSH or MESH terms. Add no more than 5 keywords to describe the intellectual content of the item. If using key word phrases, aim for 3 or fewer words per phrase. Use a new subject field for each keyword or phrase. Capitalize the first letter of each keyword or phrase. Named persons: If the item deals with a specific, named person or corporate person, check the Library of Congress (LoC) for the correct name format. If you cannot find the name in LoC

Guidance | Transcribe the complete title as it appears on the original website. Usually this is transcribed from the head of the homepage. Include the date in the title if it is part of the title. If no title appears on the website, provide a brief descriptive title that indicated the nature and subject of the resource. Optionally, add a phrase such as [archived website] to the transcribed title for a single site. |
