Upload digital objects to the Archives Catalogue

Introduction

  • In Access to Memory (AtoM), there is a 1:1 relationship between a digital object and an archival description. Each digital object must be associated with an archival description.

  • Contributors and editors can manually upload digital objects to the Archives Catalogue.

  • The Catalogue can also receive Dissemination Information Packages (DIPs) sent from Archivematica.

  • This page provides instructions on both methods of uploading digital objects to the Archives Catalogue.

Manual upload

Upload the digital object

Navigate to the archival description that will be associated with the digital object.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “Link digital object” option in the “More” menu.

Click on the “Choose File” button to open a new window.

Use the “Open” window to navigate to the file.

Click on the “Open” button to close the “Open” window.

Click on the “Create” button to upload the file and generate reference copies and thumbnails.

Update the archival description

Digitized archival material requires rich original metadata to support discovery and access. Every time a digital object is manually uploaded to the Archives Catalogue, the associated archival description should be edited and updated.

Ensure the archival description follows the guidance provided in the https://dallibraries.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/APM/pages/13861444 . This may include adding new access points and other metadata elements.

Review each area of the archival description for completeness and accuracy. Scroll to the bottom of the archival description and click on the “Edit” button.

Update the archival description as necessary. Click on the “Save” button to save the updates.
