Information about a specific type of container used to hold material.

Introduction


ArchivesSpace uses container profiles to record information about specific types of containers. This information is used to calculate the linear extent of a collection. When used in conjunction with Location Profiles, the container profile also enables use of the ArchivesSpace space calculator.

Elements of a container profile

Dimension Units

The unit of measurement for the Container Profile. 

Important: Always use Feet! This ensures that the Extent Calculator uses Linear Feet as its unit of measurement.

Feet
Extent DimensionsThe dimension by which extent should be calculated. Usually this is width, though certain custom containers may be stored differently and may be measured on a different axis.Width
DepthThe dimensions of measurement. Current practice is to round these values up to the nearest quarter foot.
HeightThe dimensions of measurement. Current practice is to round these values up to the nearest quarter foot.
WidthThe dimensions of measurement. Current practice is to round these values up to the nearest quarter foot.
Stacking LimitThe amount of containers of this type that can be stacked upon one another. Usually this is "1," but some containers may have a limit of 2.1
